Denver vanquishes Arizona in shootout, 2-1 (3-0 SO)

Gabe Gauthier scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Denver Cutthroats picked up the extra point in a 2-1 (3-0 SO) win over the Arizona Sundogs.

The shootout lasted for seven attempts between the teams. Denver also got shootout goals from Gauthier and Brad Smyth.

The Cutthroats were led by goalie Kieran Millan, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Millan certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.6 entering the contest.

Denver stifled Arizona's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Cutthroats kept the Sundogs' goalie busy throughout the game, and David Brown made 31 saves on 33 shots.

Denver was helped by Brett Lutes, who registered one goal. Lutes scored 10:21 into the third period to make the score 1-0 Denver. Gauthier picked up the assist. In addition, Denver received assists from Markus Lauridsen, who had one.

Arizona put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cutthroats to score on any of their three power plays.

The Sundogs were led by Mario Larocque, who scored the team's only goal. Larocque scored 17:34 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Jason Morgan assisted on the tally.

Denver incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Arizona incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
