Tulsa wins tough contest against Missouri, 3-2

BOK Center    Sun, Nov 11, 2012

The Tulsa Oilers gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Missouri Mavericks.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Ben Gordon secured the win for Tulsa with a goal in the second period.

The Oilers got the win with help from a great game by Gordon, who had one goal and two assists. Gordon scored on the power play 13:28 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Tulsa. Tulsa had taken the advantage when Missouri's Brandon Smith got sent off for tripping. Sean Erickson provided the assist.

The Oilers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Missouri power plays. Tulsa put 32 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.8 it averages per game.

Tulsa also got points from Mike Ullrich, who also had one goal and one assist. Michel Beausoleil also scored for Tulsa. In addition, Tulsa received assists from Gary Steffes, who had one.

The Mavericks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Missouri had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Oilers were unable to stop the Mavericks from sending pucks towards the net, and Missouri eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Mavericks were helped by Jeff Pierce, who registered one goal. Pierce scored 54 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Missouri. Sebastien Thinel picked up the assist. Missouri also got a goal from Trevor Kell as well. More assists for Missouri came via Matt Krug, who had one.

Ian Keserich rejected 32 shots on goal for Tulsa. The Oilers totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play.
