Behind a great game by Jeff Kyrzakos, who had two goals, the Arizona Sundogs defeated the Denver Cutthroats, 5-2. Kyrzakos scored on the power play at 7:18 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Arizona and again while 11:40 into the first to make the score 3-0 Arizona.Arizona stifled Denver's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. With 39 shots on target during the contest, the Sundogs exceeded the 32.1 shots they average per game this year. Johan Ryd also scored for Arizona. Other players who recorded assists for Arizona were Adam Smyth, Zack Firlotte, Mikael Bedard, and Kyle Chipchura, who contributed one a piece and David Schlemko, Kyle Hood, and Jason Morgan, who each chipped in two. Arizona was unable to stop the Cutthroats from sending pucks towards the net, and Denver eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. The Cutthroats were led by Gabe Gauthier, who racked up two goals. Gauthier scored the first of his two goals at 16:52 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Arizona. Brett Lutes provided the assist. Gauthier's next tally made the score 5-2 Arizona with 2:17 left in the third period. More assists for Denver came via Gabriel Beaupre, who had one. The Sundogs' David Brown stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Arizona incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Kent Patterson took the loss and made 18 saves before being replaced by Kieran Millan who made 16 saves. Denver incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
