The Wichita Thunder and the Missouri Mavericks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Wichita made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

The Thunder gained the winning advantage on a goal by Matt Summers 1:34 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Wichita got the win with help from a great game by Neil Trimm, who had two goals and one assist. Trimm scored the first of his two goals at 1:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wichita. Chad Painchaud picked up the assist. Trimm's next tally made the score 4-4 with 9:31 left in the second period. The Thunder had gotten the advantage when Missouri's John-Scott Dickson was sent off for roughing. Ian Lowe provided the assist.

The Wichita penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game the Thunder had been spending in the box. Wichita put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Mavericks to score on any of their five power plays. The Thunder's offense rang up 34 shots on Missouri's net.

Wichita additionally got points from Lowe, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Wichita also got a goal from RG Flath as well. In addition, Wichita received assists from David Inman and Torrie Jung, who each chipped in one and Gregor Hanson and Nathan Lutz, who contributed two a piece.

The Mavericks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Missouri had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. By firing 39 shots on goal, the Mavericks exceeded the 33.6 shots they average per game this year.
