Allen vanquishes Fort Worth in shootout, 4-3 (3-1 SO)NYTEX Brahmas Fri, Oct 26, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Allen Americans and the Fort Worth Brahmas both failed to score in overtime, but Allen won the game 4-3 (3-1 SO) after Brett Skinner's deciding goal in the shootout. The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Fort Worth got a shootout goal from Phil Fox. The Americans also got shootout goals from Jamie Schaafsma and Skinner.Scotty Howes had two goals to lead Allen to victory. Howes scored on the power play at 2:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen and again while on the power play 8:00 into the second to make the score 3-2 Allen. The Americans put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Brahmas to score on any of their five power plays. By firing 40 shots on goal, Allen exceeded the 29.1 shots it averages per game this year. Allen also got points from Darryl Bootland, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Tyler Ludwig, Skinner, Anthony Maiani, Jason Deitsch, and Mike Montgomery, who each chipped in one. Fort Worth was helped by Adam Hogg, who grabbed one goal. Hogg scored 7:00 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Fort Worth. Fort Worth also got a goal from Fox as well. More assists for Fort Worth came via Sy Nutkevitch, Tomas Klempa, and Calin Wild, who contributed one a piece. The Americans' Steve Silverthorn stopped 25 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Allen incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Americans, Howes was ejected from the game. Larry Sterling made 36 saves for the Brahmas on 39 shots. Fort Worth incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
