Wichita beats Rio Grande Valley 4-2 as Flath gets hat trick

A hat trick by RG Flath was the highlight in Thunder's 4-2 win against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees.

Flath got on the scoresheet 4:02 into the second period. He then added goals at 14:23 into the second and at 2:12 into the third.

The win gave the Wichita Thunder a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Wichita's offense rang up 37 shots on Rio Grande Valley's net.

Wichita also got points from Alex Bourret, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for Wichita were Daniel Tetrault, who had one and Thomas Beauregard, who had three.

The Killer Bees kept the Thunder's goalie busy throughout the game, and Adam Russo made 31 saves on 33 shots.

Rio Grande Valley was led by Mike Wilson, who racked up one goal and one assist. Wilson scored 17:42 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Wichita. Scott Balan picked up the assist. Rio Grande Valley also got a goal from Brandon Campos as well. In addition, Rio Grande Valley received assists from Brady Leavold and Dan Gendur, who each chipped in one.

Wichita incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Wylie Rogers rejected 33 shots on goal for the Killer Bees. Rio Grande Valley incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
