Bloomington outlasts Rapid City, 5-3

The Bloomington Blaze and Rapid City were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Bloomington made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jordy Trottier's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Blaze were paced by Trottier, who finished with one goal and one assist. Trottier scored 9:47 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Bloomington. Jon Booras picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, Rapid City was led by Shawn Limpright, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Limpright scored the first of his two goals at 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Rapid City. Jesse Schultz assisted on the tally. Limpright's next tally made the score 2-1 Rapid City with 19:52 left in the second period. Schultz picked up the assist.

Bloomington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Rapid City to score on any of its five power plays. The Blaze's offense rang up 31 shots on Rapid City's net. Bloomington's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Blaze average 2.8 goals per contest.

Bloomington also got points from Aaron Dawson, who also had one goal and one assist. Bloomington also got a goal from Jerry Pollastrone as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bloomington were Brandon Richardson, who had two and Travis Granbois, Ryan Palmer, and Kyle Laughlin, who each chipped in one.

With 38 shots on target during the contest, Rapid City exceeded the 25.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Rapid City additionally got points from Collin Circelli, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Rapid City received assists from Riley Weselowski, who had one.

Brian Mahoney-Wilson made 35 saves for Bloomington on 38 shots. The Blaze incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Rapid City's Tim Boron stopped 26 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Rapid City incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
