Allen wins tough contest against Missouri, 4-3Allen Event Center Sat, Mar 10, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Allen escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Missouri Mavericks. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Keith Johnson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Allen got the win behind a great game by Jason Deitsch, who had two goals and one assist. Deitsch scored the first of his two goals at 19:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Allen. Jarret Lukin picked up the assist. Deitsch's next tally made the score 2-1 Allen with 12:56 left in the second period. Colton Yellow Horn assisted on the tally. The 41 shots that Allen put on net surpassed Allen's average of 24.4 shots per game this season. Allen also got a goal from Mark Nebus as well. Other players who recorded assists for Allen were Brian McMillin, Jeff Martens, Scott Langdon, and Joshua Hepditch, who contributed one a piece. The Missouri penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The Mavericks surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. Missouri put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Allen to score on any of its seven power plays. The Mavericks were helped by Kris Hogg, who finished with one goal. Hogg scored on the power play 1:07 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Missouri. Missouri earned a power play opportunity when Lukin was put in the box for boarding. Ed McGrane picked up the assist. Brandon Coccimiglio also scored for Missouri. More assists for Missouri came via Dave Pszenyczny, Dale Mahovsky, and John-Scott Dickson, who each chipped in one. Allen's Rejean Beauchemin stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Allen ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Charlie Effinger made 37 saves for the Mavericks on 41 shots. Missouri registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
