GAME RECAP

Effinger, Missouri blank Dayton, 4-0

Hara Arena    Fri, Feb 24, 2012

Charlie Effinger was superb between the pipes for the Missouri Mavericks, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the Dayton Gems.

Andrew Courtney had two goals to lead Missouri to victory. Courtney's tallies came at 1:29 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Missouri and short handed 8:57 into the second to make the score 4-0 Missouri.

The Mavericks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Dayton to score on any of its four power plays.

John-Scott Dickson also scored for Missouri. More assists for Missouri came via Ed McGrane, who had two and Cole Ruwe, Dave Pszenyczny, Randy McNaught, Sebastien Thinel, and Andrew Favot, who each chipped in one.

The Gems stifled Missouri's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Dayton was held below its usual level of production. The Gems average two goals per game. Dayton relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Nick Fanto, Kyle Bochek and David Nimmo took 18 of the team's 33 shots.

The Mavericks took out Jakub Macek after he had made three saves and installed Effinger in goal, where he finished with 30 saves and the win. Missouri incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Larry Sterling recorded 24 saves for the Gems. Dayton incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
