Evansville rides Gillis to victory over Arizona, 3-1

The Evansville IceMen relied on the sparkling performance of Bryan Gillis in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Arizona Sundogs.

Evansville was sparked by Mark Cody, who tallied one goal. Cody scored 8:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Evansville. Nicklas Lindberg picked up the assist.

The IceMen's offense was clicking better than usual and put 39 shots on goal during the game, better than the 28 shots per game they average.

Evansville additionally got points from Sean OConnor, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Todd Robinson also scored for Evansville. In addition, Evansville received assists from Brian Bicek, Steve Makway, and Malcolm Gwilliam, who each chipped in one.

Arizona was led by Kevin Petovello, who scored the team's only goal. Petovello scored on the power play 9:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Arizona. The Sundogs had gained a power play chance when Lindberg was whistled for interference. Craig Macdonald assisted on the tally.

Bryan Gillis made 25 saves for Evansville on 26 shots. The IceMen totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 1-for-1 on the power play. Mike Spillane recorded 36 saves for Arizona. The Sundogs totaled 12 minutes in penalty time with one minor and two majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
