Dayton uses shootout to best Bloomington, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Tim Hartung scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Dayton Gems picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (1-0 SO) win over the Bloomington Blaze.

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams.

Dayton overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Gems was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Bloomington's Aaron Dawson at 1:51 in the second period. Dayton tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Brandon Naurato at 11:44 in the third period.

The Gems were paced by Brett Lutes, who registered one goal and one assist. Lutes scored 4:56 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Bloomington. David Nimmo provided the assist.

By firing 53 shots on goal, Dayton exceeded the 26 shots it averages per game this year.

More assists for Dayton came via Nick Schneider, who had one.

The Blaze's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 43 shots put on the Gems' net.

Bloomington was helped by Kyle Laughlin, who tallied one goal. Laughlin scored 10:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Bloomington. Luke Popko picked up the assist. In addition, Bloomington received assists from Travis Granbois, Mark Znutas, and Jon Booras, who each chipped in one.

Dan Dunn made 41 saves for Dayton on 43 shots. The Gems incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Zane Kalemba turned away 50 pucks between the pipes for the Blaze. Bloomington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
