Mazza is a Massachusetts native who comes to North Adams via the University of Maryland, where he is a college teammate to outfielder Anthony Papio and pitcher Brandon Casas.
Mazza attended Dexter School where he was a star not only on the baseball diamond, but also on the football field where he was a four-year letter winner.  In his senior season, he served as the team captain for the baseball team and hit 531, garnering team MVP honors.  He was an Underclass Honorable Mention All-American according to Perfect Game USA and was the starting catcher for a 2011 team that went 23-0 and was ranked in the Top 50 in the nation.  As a freshman he hasn’t played for the Terps yet, but was a highly sought after high school athlete, choosing the Terps over Boston College, Harvard and Holy Cross.
Mazza will likely see most of his time behind the plate in North Adams this season, where his leadership and background on winning teams will be a huge asset.
