Schumacher returns to York where he helped the Revs win their second consecutive Atlantic League championship in 2011, when he was arguably the league’s best pitcher during that postseason. After going 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA in four regular season starts with the Revs, Schumacher was 1-1 with a 1.31 ERA in three postseason starts, holding opponents to a .157 batting average during that playoff run. He led all pitchers in innings that postseason, and after losing 1-0 in a complete game effort at Long Island in Game 1 of the Atlantic League Championship Series, he was stellar working on short rest in a spot start in Game 4, taking a no-decision when the Revs took a late lead to defeat the Ducks and clinch the title.
The right-hander came to York after going 10-5 with a 3.03 ERA for Sioux City of the American Association in 2011 and returned to Sioux City where he pitched last year. He spent his first three professional seasons as a reliever in the San Diego Padres organization, and even worked as a closer, notching 21 saves with Fort Wayne in 2010.
