Nick Valdez clubbed two home runs to carry the Maui Na Koa Ikaika (30-25) to an 11-5 win over the Hawaii Stars (23-26) at Iron Maehara Stadium.
Valdez had a busy day at the plate, collecting four extra-base hits. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the fifth inning.
Six runs in the first three innings helped the Maui Na Koa Ikaika blow out the Hawaii Stars. A groundout by Danny Sandoval, a groundout by Jose M Sanchez, and a solo home run by Valdez in the first inning supplied the early offense for the Maui Na Koa Ikaika.
Chad Blackwell got the win, running his season record to 8-1. He allowed two runs over seven innings. He struck out six, walked none and surrendered 10 hits.
Ronnie Loeffler couldn't get it done on the hill for the Hawaii Stars, taking a loss. He allowed eight runs in five innings, walked three and struck out none.
The Maui Na Koa Ikaika were sparked by Valdez and Gered Mochizuki, who teamed up for six hits and six RBIs.
