Four first-inning runs helped the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (41-31) to a 7-5 win over the San Angelo Colts (37-36) at Harlingen Field on Thursday.
Romulo Ruiz racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings. He homered in the first inning and singled in the third and fourth innings.
Wander Perez looked sharp on the mound. Perez held the San Angelo Colts hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two.
Cory Patton racked up two RBIs on two hits for the San Angelo Colts. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the third inning.
Celson Polanco got his ninth win for the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings despite allowing five runs over 6 2/3 innings. Polanco struck out six, walked three and gave up eight hits.
Mike Hart (5-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in seven innings, walked two and struck out two.
