A magnificent effort by Mike Dawes hoisted the Big Blue (16-4) to a 20-3 win in five innings over the Ruff Ryders (1-18) on Sunday at Shorefront Park.
Dawes rocked the Ruff Ryders with two home runs. Dawes went 4-4 in the game with four RBIs and three runs scored. Dawes homered in the fourth and fifth innings.
The Big Blue blew out the Ruff Ryders thanks to 23 hits, including zero extra base hits. The Big Blue scored seven runs in the fourth on a three-run home run by Dawes, an RBI triple by Sean Montalvo, an RBI double by Dan Caceres, an RBI single by Vin Colantuoni, and an RBI triple by Chris Shull.
The game was back-and-forth heading into the third, with five lead changes.
Christian Colantuoni got the win, running his season record to 12-2. He allowed three runs over five innings. He struck out none, walked three and surrendered 10 hits.
Rex Aquino ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed 20 runs in five innings, walked one and struck out two.
The Big Blue easily handled the Ruff Ryders pitching as seven hitters combined for 19 hits, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored.
