A magnificent effort by Jay Deabreau lifted the HOT RODS (19-2) to a 17-16 win in seven innings over the longo lighting (15-6) on Thursday at Shorefront Park.
Deabreau racked up seven RBIs on three hits for the HOT RODS. He singled in the third inning and homered in the fourth and sixth innings.
Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 33 total runs and 40 hits during the game.
The HOT RODS would not relinquish the lead as the longo lighting were unable to weather a nine-run fourth inning deficit.
The longo lighting scored on a solo home run by Kevin O'Brien and a two-run single by Pat Shiels in the fourth inning, a sacrifice fly by Dom Geraci, an RBI single by O'Brien, , , and a two-run single by Anthony Cinquemaini in the fifth inning, a solo home run by Geraci and a groundout by O'Brien in the sixth inning, and an RBI single by Craig Tumberella, an RBI single by Shiels, and a sacrifice fly by Kruger Suarez in the seventh inning. Despite their efforts, the longo lighting couldn't get over the hump.
O'Brien racked up two RBIs on three hits for the longo lighting.
Even though Deabreau allowed 16 runs over seven innings he still recorded the victory, his tenth of the season. He struck out none, walked eight and surrendered 19 hits.
Anthony Avelli (7-2) took the loss for the longo lighting. He allowed 17 runs in six innings, walked none and struck out none.
The HOT RODS pounded the longo lighting pitching, as six hitters combined for 17 hits, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
