The Sioux City Explorers outlast the Winnipeg Goldeyes in high-scoring affair, 10-9

Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Wednesday as the Sioux City Explorers (42-53) outscored the Winnipeg Goldeyes (54-41) 10-9.

The teams totaled 27 hits in the game.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to four lead changes in the game.

The Sioux City Explorers held off the Winnipeg Goldeyes, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes were unable to overcome a four-run seventh inning deficit.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes scored on an RBI single by Yurendell de Caster in the seventh inning, an RBI single by Michael Coles and an RBI single by Price Kendall in the eighth inning, and a sacrifice fly by Josh Mazzola in the ninth inning. Still, the Winnipeg Goldeyes couldn't draw even.

Ray Serrano put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Sioux City Explorers. He singled in the seventh inning and doubled in the third and ninth innings.

Jon Plefka got the win, running his season record to 1-3. He allowed three runs over four innings. He struck out one, walked two and surrendered five hits.

Zach Baldwin was charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed six runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out four.

Adrian Martinez, Ryan Priddy, Serrano and Jorge Delgado helped lead the Sioux City Explorers. They combined for 11 hits and seven RBIs.
