The Normal CornBelters fend off the Rockford RiverHawks' late push, hold on 3-1

The Rockford RiverHawks (28-33) weren't able to overcome the big hole they dug themselves into against the Normal CornBelters (19-42), and the Rockford RiverHawks lost 3-1 to the Normal CornBelters after falling behind by three runs in the fifth inning.

The Rockford RiverHawks scored one run in the sixth on a solo home run by Evan Button. Still, the Rockford RiverHawks couldn't draw even.

Ernie Banks Jr. racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Normal CornBelters. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the fifth inning.

Brendon Smith brought the heat against the Rockford RiverHawks during his outing. The Rockford RiverHawks managed just two hits off of Smith, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his five innings of work.

Despite the loss, the Rockford RiverHawks' Kyle Schepel dominated the Normal CornBelters' batters, giving up three runs and striking out seven.

Schepel (3-2) took the loss for the Rockford RiverHawks.
