The Florence Freedom defeat the Southern Illinois Miners after late game sacrifice fly, 7-5

The Florence Freedom (45-38) took the last of four lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against the Southern Illinois Miners (49-33), securing a 7-5 victory on Saturday at Home of the Florence Freedom.

The Florence Freedom pulled out the win thanks to a strong fifth inning. A sacrifice fly by Kyle Bluestein scored David Harris and Jose Velazquez and gave the Florence Freedom the lead for good.

Eddie Rodriguez racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Florence Freedom. He homered in the first inning and singled in the seventh inning.

The Southern Illinois Miners couldn't get anything going as long as Brad Allen was on the mound. The Southern Illinois Miners managed just two hits off of the the Florence Freedom's pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out two during his three innings of work.

Chad Maddox went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for the Southern Illinois Miners. He homered in the first inning and singled in the seventh and ninth innings.

Velazquez recorded his sixth win of the year for the Florence Freedom. Velazquez struck out one, walked one and gave up one hit.

Brian Fowler was charged with his ninth loss of the year. He allowed six runs in four innings, walked two and struck out two.
