The Rockford RiverHawks (4-7) and the Normal CornBelters (3-7) passed the lead back and forth four times on Wednesday at RiverHawks Stadium, but in the end the Rockford RiverHawks pulled out a 7-5 win over the Normal CornBelters.
Jet Butler did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Rockford RiverHawks, reaching base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the first and fifth innings.
The Normal CornBelters couldn't get anything going as long as Joey Gradney was on the mound. The Normal CornBelters managed just one hit off of the the Rockford RiverHawks' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his two innings of work.
Pat Trettel was hot from the plate for the Normal CornBelters. Trettel went 4-5 and scored one run. He singled in the second, third, and fifth innings and doubled in the seventh inning.
Ziggie VanderWall improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Rockford RiverHawks. He allowed four runs over five innings. VanderWall struck out four, walked none and gave up eight hits.
Jacob Liedka (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
