A three-run eighth inning sealed a 10-1 win for the Newark Pilots (17-10) over the Elmira Pioneers (15-10) on Thursday at Dunn Field.
The Newark Pilots scored in the eighth on a two-run triple by Chris Sharpe and an RBI single by Greg Cullen.
Sharpe had three extra-base hits for the Newark Pilots.
The Newark Pilots relied on Max Ludka to eat up innings en route to the win. Ludka allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks while striking out three over nine innings of work.
A bright spot for the Elmira Pioneers in the defeat was Taylor Ahearn, who allowed only three runs while striking out six.
Ahearn (2-1) took the loss for the Elmira Pioneers.
The Newark Pilots were sparked by Chase Cockrell and Sharpe, who teamed up for seven hits and four RBIs.
