An exceptional effort by Kayla Andrews lifted the Columbia Basin (12-4) to a 7-0 win in eight innings over the Chemeketa on Saturday at Columbia Playfields.
Andrews held the Chemeketa (4-7) scoreless during his seven innings of work. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up nine.
Five runs in the opening three innings allowed the Columbia Basin to easily put away the Chemeketa. A three-run double by Suzanna Lubanski in the first inning and and a hit by pitch during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Columbia Basin.
Megan McMurrin led the Columbia Basin's offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored two runs and had two RBIs. He singled in the seventh inning.
Lindsay Hill (0-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just one inning, walked four, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
