An awesome effort by Dakota Smith lifted the Gateway Grizzlies (20-21) to a 2-1 win in seven innings over the Washington Wild Things (21-19) on Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Park.
Smith had an impressive outing against the Washington Wild Things' lineup. The Washington Wild Things managed just one hit off of Smith, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out eight during his seven innings of work.
The Washington Wild Things jumped out to an early lead, but they were unable to hang on. The Washington Wild Things led until the seventh inning, but the Gateway Grizzlies took the lead back on a two-run double by Logan Davis.
Chase Cunningham kept the Gateway Grizzlies off the board during his six innings of work. Cunningham allowed two hits, no walks and struck out two.
Zac Grotz (0-1) took the loss for the Washington Wild Things. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
