The Lafayette Aviators (21-21) beat the Kokomo Jackrabbits (21-20) 13-4 on Saturday at Loeb Stadium after a seven-run explosion in the sixth inning.
The Lafayette Aviators scored in the sixth on an RBI single by John Valente, a sacrifice fly by Joe Murray, an RBI single by Riley Benner, a two-run single by Mark Sluys, and a two-run home run by Evan Warden.
Sluys racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Lafayette Aviators.
Jacob Preston pitched lights out for the Lafayette Aviators. The Kokomo Jackrabbits managed just two hits off of Preston, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his three innings of work.
Ryan Hutchinson had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He homered in the second inning, singled in the fifth inning, and tripled in the ninth inning.
Warden improved to 5-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Lafayette Aviators. He allowed four runs over six innings. Warden struck out four, walked five and gave up nine hits.
Mike Anthony (6-3) took the loss for the Kokomo Jackrabbits. He lasted just four innings, walked none, struck out five, and allowed five runs.
