Wednesday was a great day for Daniel Thorpe, as Thorpe tossed a shutout to carry the Alpine Cowboys (24-17) to a 2-0 victory over the Las Cruces Vaqueros (11-30) at Kokernot Field.
Thorpe held the Las Cruces Vaqueros scoreless during his nine innings of work. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up six.
Derrick Fox was solid at the plate for the Alpine Cowboys. Fox went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the eighth inning.
Despite the loss, the Las Cruces Vaqueros' Steven Cazares dominated the Alpine Cowboys' batters, giving up two runs and striking out six.
Cazares couldn't get it done on the mound for the Las Cruces Vaqueros, taking a loss.
