The Florence Freedom get key pinch-hit in 7-3 victory over the Schaumburg Boomers

Zac Mitchell was cold coming off the bench, but Mitchell warmed up quickly as Mitchell stroked a key pinch-hit single in the one to lead the Florence Freedom (40-43) to a 7-3 win over the Schaumburg Boomers (34-49) on Saturday at Schaumburg Boomers Stadium.

With the game scoreless in the first inning Mitchell came to the plate and singled.

It was a good day at the plate for the Florence Freedom's Mitchell. Mitchell went 3-5 and scored two runs.

The Florence Freedom came out swinging, scoring four runs in the first inning to jump ahead of the Schaumburg Boomers early. The Florence Freedom scored in the first on a two-run triple by Austin Newell, an RBI single by Sam Eberle, and a sacrifice fly by Collins Cuthrell.

Newell racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Florence Freedom.

Tony Vocca pitched lights out for the Florence Freedom. The Schaumburg Boomers managed just two hits off of Vocca, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Coleman Stephens recorded his fourth win of the year for the Florence Freedom. He allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings. Stephens struck out three, walked two and gave up five hits.

Taylor Thurber (1-4) took the loss for the Schaumburg Boomers. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked three and struck out three.
