A magnificent effort by Cameron Monger spurred the Normal CornBelters (24-17) to an 8-4 win over the River City Rascals (22-18) on Wednesday at The Corn Crib.
Monger blasted two home runs for the Normal CornBelters. Monger went 3-4 in the game with three RBIs and two runs scored. Monger homered in the third and eighth innings.
Stephen Frey pitched lights out for the Normal CornBelters. The River City Rascals managed just two hits off of the the Normal CornBelters' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out six during his four innings of work.
Josh Ludy did his best to jumpstart the offense for the River City Rascals, reaching base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He singled in the sixth inning and homered in the eighth inning.
Cole Brocker recorded his first win of the year for the Normal CornBelters. He struck out none, walked none and surrendered no hits.
Joe Scanio ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed four runs.
