Dominic Miles collected three hits, sparking the Quincy Gems (1-1) to a 5-4 victory over the Danville Dans (1-1) on Thursday at Danville Stadium.

Despite the loss, the Danville Dans' Kyle Royalty dominated the Quincy Gems' batters, giving up zero runs and striking out five.

Brandon Shirley was solid at the plate for the Danville Dans. Shirley went 2-3, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first and fourth innings.

Preston Church improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Quincy Gems. He allowed four runs over five innings. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered seven hits.

Chase Thurston (0-1) took the loss for the Danville Dans. He lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked four, struck out two, and allowed four runs.
