An impressive effort by Romeo Cortina lifted the Rockville Express (12-8) to a 10-3 win over the Vienna River Dogs (6-10) on Saturday at James Madison High School.
Cortina blasted two home runs for the Rockville Express. Cortina went 3-5 in the game with five RBIs and three runs scored. Cortina homered in the second and fifth innings.
Seven runs in the first three innings helped the Rockville Express blow out the Vienna River Dogs. A two-run double by Brandon Benson and an RBI single by Chris Miller in the first inning and a two-run home run by Cortina during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Rockville Express.
Corey Leszczynski had an impressive outing against the Vienna River Dogs' lineup. The Vienna River Dogs managed just two hits off of Leszczynski, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one during his three innings of work.
Shaun Corso racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Vienna River Dogs. He singled in the second, fourth, and fifth innings.
Sadiq Burkholder improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Rockville Express. He allowed three runs over five innings. Burkholder struck out four, walked two and gave up eight hits.
Dan Powers ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in 2 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out two.
