The Carolina Vipers (13-25)'s four first-inning runs built an early lead that helped bring home a 10-5 win over the Pineville Pioneers (16-18) on Thursday at East Mecklenburg HS.

The Carolina Vipers scored in the first on an RBI single by Sam Fulginiti, an RBI single by Jace Whitley, , and an error.

Ed Speakman racked up three RBIs on one hit for the Carolina Vipers. He homered in the sixth inning.

It was a good day at the plate for the Pineville Pioneers' Derek Hirsch. Hirsch went 3-4 and scored two runs. He singled in the first, third, and seventh innings.

Patrick Haynes got the win, running his season record to 2-4. He allowed four runs over six innings. Haynes struck out one, walked one and gave up nine hits.

Jordan Newsome (2-3) took the loss for the Pineville Pioneers. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
