The Pineville Pioneers (7-12) beat the Statesville Owls (13-12) 8-2 in seven innings on Monday at Statesville Owls Home Field after a five-run explosion in the fourth inning.

The Pineville Pioneers scored in the fourth on a fielder's choice, an RBI single by Henry Rowland, a two-run double by Jacob Rand, and an RBI single by Stephen Wallace.

Rowland got on base three times in the game for the Pineville Pioneers. He scored two runs and had one RBI.

The Statesville Owls couldn't get anything going as long as Will Zirzow was pitching. The Statesville Owls managed just one hit off of the the Pineville Pioneers' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his 2 1/3 innings of work.

Jordan Newsome improved to 2-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Pineville Pioneers. He allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings. Newsome struck out three, walked one and gave up six hits.

Clint Howell (1-3) took the loss for the Statesville Owls. He lasted just four innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
