Scott Hoilman went 1-4 and hit a home run, helping the Statesville Owls (11-9) to a 3-2 victory over the Lake Norman Copperheads (11-8) on Monday at Hopewell HS.

The Lake Norman Copperheads couldn't get anything going so long as Sam Laws was on the hill. The Lake Norman Copperheads managed just one hit off of Laws, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his four innings of work.

Joe Bertone paced the Lake Norman Copperheads at the plate. Bertone went 3-4. He doubled in the third inning and singled in the first and fifth innings.

Hunter Hamilton allowed one earned run, seven hits and no walks while striking out three over 7 2/3 innings of work.

Andrew Kirkland recorded his first win of the year for the Statesville Owls. Kirkland struck out none, walked none and gave up no hits.

Taylor Cox (1-2) took the loss for the Lake Norman Copperheads. He lasted just 1 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.
