Extra-inning thriller favors the Ballantyne Smokies, 8-7 winners over the Carolina Vipers

It took 10 innings, but the Ballantyne Smokies (6-2) managed to put away the Carolina Vipers (1-6) 8-7 on Tuesday at East Mecklenburg HS.

With the score tied at seven, Grey Klosinski came to the plate and singled, plating Levi Wright.

Dan Stoltzfus had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the seventh inning and doubled in the third and tenth innings.

Ben Taylor had an impressive outing against the Carolina Vipers' lineup. The Carolina Vipers managed just one hit off of the the Ballantyne Smokies' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his 2 1/3 innings of work.

JD Huggins racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Carolina Vipers. He singled in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.

Luke Watts couldn't get it done on the mound for the Carolina Vipers, taking a loss. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.

The Ballantyne Smokies' Stoltzfus, Derek Croxton and Wright combined for seven hits and three RBIs.
