The Washington Wild Things (32-19) beat the Florence Freedom (21-28) 5-1 on Sunday at CONSOL Energy Park behind Sam Montgomery, who went 2-4.

He singled in the second inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

Shawn Blackwell pitched lights out for the Washington Wild Things. The Florence Freedom managed just one hit off of Blackwell, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out seven during his five innings of work.

It was a good day at the plate for the Florence Freedom's Joe Staley. Staley went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the second inning.

Chuck Weaver couldn't get it done on the bump for the Florence Freedom, taking a loss. He lasted just five innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed four runs.
