Chatham Anglers vs Orleans Firebirds: 2-1

Early lead not enough for the Orleans Firebirds, drop 2-1 decision to the Chatham Anglers

The Orleans Firebirds (11-14) came out firing, but couldn't hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 2-1 ballgame against the Chatham Anglers (17-8) on Saturday at Eldredge Park.

While the Orleans Firebirds led until the seventh inning, the Chatham Anglers worked their way back and took the lead on a wild pitch.

J.D. Davis led the Chatham Anglers' offensive threat, as he got on base two times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI. He homered in the seventh inning.

Matthew Gage's seven strikeouts were enough to push the Chatham Anglers past the Orleans Firebirds. Gage allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk over six innings.

Vince Conde was hot from the plate for the Orleans Firebirds. Conde went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the second inning.

Bobby Poyner (1-2) took the loss for the Orleans Firebirds. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out one, and allowed two runs.
