Preston Vancil hopes every outing could go as well as Thursday, as Vancil tossed a shutout to carry the Southern Illinois Miners (32-26) to a 5-0 victory over the Washington Wild Things (27-31) at Rent One Park, Marion, IL.

The Southern Illinois Miners' Vancil kept the Washington Wild Things off the scoreboard for all nine innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on three hits while ringing up seven.

Cory Harrilchak racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Southern Illinois Miners. He singled in the fourth inning and homered in the sixth inning.

Gary Lee couldn't get it done on the mound for the Washington Wild Things, taking a loss. He lasted just seven innings, walked none, struck out five, and allowed five runs.
