A nine-run explosion in the fifth inning hoisted the Traverse City Beach Bums (34-21) to a 12-5 win over the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field on Monday.
Zach Kometani had two extra-base hits for the Traverse City Beach Bums. He doubled in the fifth inning, homered in the fifth inning, and singled in the eighth and ninth innings.
Chris Squires looked sharp on the mound. Squires gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his three innings of work.
It was a good day at the plate for the Evansville Otters (27-27)'s Ryan Kresky. Kresky went 3-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the third and ninth innings.
Michael Devine improved to 4-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Traverse City Beach Bums. He allowed four runs over five innings. Devine struck out two, walked two and gave up eight hits.
Ryan Zamorsky couldn't get it done on the mound for the Evansville Otters, taking a loss. He allowed eight runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out three.
Marcus Nidiffer, Taylor Wrenn, Scott Woodward and Kometani helped lead the Traverse City Beach Bums. They combined for nine hits and eight RBIs.
