Early boost from Pfister helps the Schaumburg Boomers get past the Joliet Slammers, 6-2

The Schaumburg Boomers (23-16) jumped on the Joliet Slammers (15-23) early on their way to a 6-2 win on Saturday at Silver Cross Field, scoring four runs in the first inning.

Brian McConkey was hot from the plate for the Schaumburg Boomers. McConkey went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the ninth inning.

The Schaumburg Boomers relied on Danny Jimenez to eat up innings en route to the win. Jimenez pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed one earned run, eight hits and no walks while striking out four.

Brett Zawacki ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed five runs.
