The River City Rascals (41-46) didn't put up much of a fight on Thursday, as the Southern Illinois Miners (51-35) cruised to a blowout 9-2 win at T. R. Hughes Ballpark.
The Southern Illinois Miners scored four runs in the fourth on a groundout by Carlos Mendez, an RBI double by Chris Anderson, an RBI single by Cannon Lester, and an RBI single by Cory Harrilchak.
Lester racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Southern Illinois Miners.
It was a good day at the plate for the River City Rascals' Doug Sanders. Sanders went 3-5, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the first inning and singled in the fifth and seventh innings.
Brian Fowler got the win, running his season record to 6-9. He allowed two runs over five innings. Fowler struck out four, walked one and gave up six hits.
Liam Ohlmann ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed nine runs in four innings, walked three and struck out two.
