Thursday was a great day for Daniel Wright, as Wright struck out 11 batters to carry the Newport Gulls (5-1) to a 9-2 victory over the Danbury Westerners at Cardines Field.
The Newport Gulls blew out the Danbury Westerners (4-2) thanks to 15 hits, including zero extra base hits. A two-run double by Joel McKeithan helped the Newport Gulls score two runs in the eighth. The Newport Gulls had three hits in the inning.
Kasey Coffman was solid at the plate for the Newport Gulls. Coffman went 4-5 and scored two runs. He doubled in the first inning and singled in the third, fifth, and sixth innings.
Brett Houseal (0-2) took the loss for the Danbury Westerners. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked five and struck out four.
