Gentile played four seasons at D-1 University of Cincinnati. He led the team in appearances his senior season with 23 in 2013. The lefty led the Bearcats in strikeouts with 60 in 2012 while finishing 11th in the Big East in ERA (3.22). The Freedom selected Gentile with their fourth round pick in the 2014 Frontier League Draft.
