Josh Pond is a pitcher who is making his Florence Freedom debut in 2013. The 6'6" right hander was born and raised in San Diego, California and graduated from Santana High School in 2008. Upon graduating high school, Pond opted to attend and play baseball for Scottsdale Community College. In two years at Scottsdale, Pond pitched his way to a 3.80 ERA and tossed 44 strikeouts in 10 appearances. He then transferred to Cal State San Bernardino University before his junior year. Pond had an incredible first year with Cal State San Bernardino; he earned the role as the team's primary closer and tied the Division II record for most saves in a single season, with 16. He finished the year with a 1.54 ERA and just one blown save. As a result of his success, he was selected as a National College Baseball Writers Association Third-Team All-American and First-Team All-CCAA member. Many media outlets predicted Pond to have an even stronger year in his senior season; however, injuries plagued him and ultimately cut his season short, and Pond only ended up pitching 5.1 innings over 11 games. He still managed to finish the year with 5 saves, bringing his two year total at Cal State San Bernardino to 21. Following his college graduation, Pond signed with the Florence Freedom.
