Dan Osterbrock is a Cincinnati native who will be making his Florence Freedom debut in 2013. Osterbrock graduated from Colerain High School, where he set the school record for career strikeouts (225), in 2005. The 6'3" left hander then enrolled at the University of Cincinnati, where he played baseball from 2006-2008. He began his college career as a relief pitcher, but moved into the starting rotation midway though his freshman year. In 2007, his first complete year as a starter, Osterbrock went 9-1 with a 2.67 ERA. He followed his impressive sophomore campaign with a strong junior year in 2008, ending the season with a 9-2 record, a 3.55 ERA, and 194 strikeouts. After just three years, Osterbrock had set the University of Cincinnati school record for career wins with 21. Osterbrock chose not to return to school for his senior season after the Minnesota Twins drafted him in the 7th round of the 2008 MLB Draft. Osterbrock joined the Elizabethton Twins, the rookie level affiliate team of the Minnesota Twins, for the 2008 season and compiled a 7-2 record while tossing an incredible 104 strikeouts and only 8 walks. He moved up to the Beloit Snappers, the A level affiliate of the Twins, for the 2009 season and went 7-10 with a 5.19 ERA and 140 strikeouts in 137 innings. The following year, Osterbrock was promoted mid season to the Twins' A+ level affiliate team, the Fort Meyers Miracle. Osterbrock ended the season with the Miracle and began 2011 with the same team. In 24 appearances with the team, Osterbrock went 9-8 with 88 strikeouts. He was then moved up yet again to the Twins' AA level affiliate, the New Britain Rock Cats, however he only appeared in 2 games before a shoulder injury ended his season. Osterbrock signed with the Freedom afterwards.
