Hernandez hails from Miami, FL and competed against current Slammers pitcher Tommy Mendoza in high school. Hernandez was an All-Star at the Double-A level in 2007 with the Carolina Mudcats. He earned “Pitcher of the Week” honors two times at the Triple-A level in the Pacific Coast League. Hernandez was twice traded for MLB All-Stars. In 2008 he was traded to the Florida Marlins for four-time All-Star Paul Lo Duca. Later that season Hernandez was traded to the Seattle Mariners for Arthur Rhodes, who would go on to make the MLB All-Star Game at the age of 40 in 2010. Hernandez is the fifth current Slammers player with Triple-A experience, joining INF Erik Lis, RHP Tommy Mendoza, RHP Amalio Diaz and INF Abel Nieves.
