Tom Verdi drove in the winning run to give the Madison Mallards (9-12) the lead in the sixth inning, as the Madison Mallards hung on to beat the Battle Creek Bombers (9-12) 5-3 on Thursday.

With the score tied at two in the sixth inning, Verdi came to the plate and grounded out, plating Michael McGraw and John Welborn.

The Madison Mallards held off the Battle Creek Bombers, as the Battle Creek Bombers were unable to overcome a three-run sixth inning deficit.

The Battle Creek Bombers scored one run in the ninth on a solo home run by Sikes Orvis. Despite their efforts, the Battle Creek Bombers couldn't finish the comeback.

Tyler Marincov racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Madison Mallards. He singled in the third and fifth innings and homered in the sixth inning.

Hobie McClain improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Madison Mallards. McClain struck out one, walked three and gave up one hit.

Brian Thene (0-2) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked four, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
