The Orleans Firebirds (6-1) and the Cotuit Kettleers (3-4) both had scoring chances on Thursday, but it was the Orleans Firebirds that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out an 8-6 win at Lowell Park.

The Orleans Firebirds held off the Cotuit Kettleers, as the Cotuit Kettleers were unable to overcome a six-run sixth inning deficit.

The Cotuit Kettleers scored on a groundout by Tim Kiene, a solo home run by Adam Nelubowich, and a solo home run by Aramis Garcia in the sixth inning and an RBI single by Kiene and a groundout by Garcia in the eighth inning. Still, the Cotuit Kettleers couldn't catch the Orleans Firebirds.

Jay Gonzalez reached base three times. He singled in the ninth inning.

Trevor Gott put together a nice outing. Gott held the Cotuit Kettleers hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.

Dylan Covey recorded his first win of the year for the Orleans Firebirds. He allowed one run over two innings. Covey struck out none, walked none and gave up three hits.

Kyle Finnegan (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just four innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
