It took 11 innings, but the Orleans Firebirds (17-20) managed to put away the Cotuit Kettleers (12-25) 5-4 on Wednesday at Eldredge Park.
With the score tied at four in the eleventh inning, Payton Squier came to the plate and singled, bringing home Brian Miller.
The Orleans Firebirds were led by Riley Adams's hitting. Adams went 4-5, drove in one and scored two runs. He homered in the sixth inning and singled in the second, fourth, and tenth innings.
Kevin Smith handled the Cotuit Kettleers' lineup with ease, racking up eight strikeouts. Smith allowed one earned run, six hits and no walks over five innings.
Despite the loss, the Cotuit Kettleers' Alec Byrd dominated the Orleans Firebirds' batters, giving up zero runs and striking out five.
Will Stokes got the win, running his season record to 2-1. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered no hits.
Ryan Rigby (1-3) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed one run.
