Ayers helps the Terre Haute Rex down the Springfield Sliders 6-4

The Terre Haute Rex (29-16) beat the Springfield Sliders (29-16) 6-4 on Wednesday at Robin Roberts Field behind Chris Ayers, who had two extra base hits.

He doubled in the first inning and homered in the ninth inning.

Michael Klein pitched lights out for the Terre Haute Rex. The Springfield Sliders managed just three hits off of the the Terre Haute Rex's pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked one and struck out two during his six innings of work.

Despite the loss, the Springfield Sliders' Andrew Quinn dominated the Terre Haute Rex's batters, giving up two runs and striking out eight.

Alec Skender reached base two times in the game for the Springfield Sliders. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the fifth inning.

Matt Weissheier improved to 2-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Terre Haute Rex. Weissheier struck out none, walked none and gave up no hits.

Jacob Hanson (0-1) took the loss for the Springfield Sliders. He lasted just zero innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed four runs.

The Terre Haute Rex were sparked by Dalton Board and Ayers, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.
