The Quincy Gems (5-2) and the Hannibal Cavemen (1-5) volleyed the lead five times on Monday, but the Quincy Gems came out on top for a 4-3 win on Monday at Clemens Field.
The Hannibal Cavemen had no answer for Jake Busiek, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Busiek held the Hannibal Cavemen hitless over 2 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four.
Damon Waller paced the Hannibal Cavemen at the plate. Waller went 2-5 and scored one run. He tripled in the second inning and singled in the fifth inning.
Carl Brice (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just two innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
